Assessment Toolkit Financial year 2025/26
The North Yorkshire Music Service has developed a “toolkit” that will enable schools to evaluate their current
offer. One Head of Music said:
“I really like the layout of the toolkit with the easy grid layout. As a fairly new HoD, the DDP is one area that I have found quite daunting and it's not necessarily something that I feel I have had much support with from inside school. I think it is something that people just assume all staff fully understand but your toolkit really does make it simple and breaks everything down. I particularly like the checklist as I am a ‘list maker’ myself so this really suits me. I intend to use this toolkit in the summer term as we are finalising Year 11 results and planning new schemes for next September. Although each school have their own format for a DDP or dept SEF, I really feel that this is a useful resource that I can use for my personal development."
The North Yorkshire Music Service can work with you using the toolkit and provide a free "health check" style visit for schools where no music coordinator or head of music exists. To receive the toolkit and to arrange a meeting with one of our senior leaders, please contact Nicola Skrzypczak at nicola.skrzypczak@northyorks.gov.uk
North Yorkshire Music Service
The Music Service works with 91% of Secondary schools and 95% of Primary Schools in North Yorkshire. We offer several different packages and options for schools for schools to buy in time from the Music Service. Click here to see options including Large Instrumental Ensembles / Classes, and Curriculum Music. 'Teaching Block' is a new addition and allows schools to buy in a block of teaching time to be used as they wish e.g. GCSE groups, larger group teaching. The costs can be spread to parents making it a cheaper option for children and young people.
Schools can also opt in with our Whole Class Ensemble Tuition. These run for a year and allow schools to receive the equivalent of a term's free whole class tuition.
To buy in one of the options please contact countyhall.music@northyorks.gov.uk

North Yorkshire Music Service have developed a scheme of work for both KS1 and KS2 pupils, aimed at providing non-specialists and specialists the tools they need to implement a successful music curriculum. It is free to all North Yorkshire Council schools.
The schemes of work have been developed by a curriculum specialist and are devised to provide the children with a highly practical musical experience.
